Sussex KO Cup

Angmering had a bye in the first round and drew East Grinstead in the second round. With a very wet season East Grinstead’s pitch was unplayable for the majority of July hence Angmering were given the game.

The quarter finals presented an away tie at East division Chiddingly. Angmering travelled to the delightful village green and enjoyed a perfect summers evening of Stoolball. Angmering lost the toss and were put into bat where they amassed a score of 205 for 4. Chiddingly found it difficult to break the opening partnership of Melissa Mantle (82) and Gill Hilliard (51). Laura Bull managed to secure her first ever golden duck clean bowled first ball – a very strange feeling!  Chidingly were restricted to 133 with 2 wickets a piece for Rachel Lander, Julia Binns and Melissa.

The semi final brought another long trip to the East Divison this time to old rivals United Friends. Angmering always enjoy the trip with the promise of a competitive game and an excellent tea – it’s worth the journey just for the scones!!!

Angmering won the toss and elected to bat scoring 173 for 6 from 20 overs (Hayley Sheppard our new Cricket recruit was looking forward to a longer game!). Connie Chapman batting a number 5 boosted the total with a knock of 48. as ever the accurate bowling of Suzie Cottingham kept everyone on their toes!

Angmering struggled to dismiss the opener Emma who went on to make 61 but the slower paced bowling restricted United Friends to 155 for 7.

This put Angmering through to their 5th KO Cup final to play Mountfield of the East Division and current holders of the trophy. Mountfield had dismissed Angmering at the semi final stage last year and the girls were determined to set the record straight. Angmering won the toss and elected to bat against the pace bowling of Jane Anderson. She soon dismissed the unlucky Karen Harmer but then consistent batting through the line up gave Angmering a total of 309 for 5 from the 30 overs, with Melissa making 112 and Laura Bull 47 and Mr extras having a grand total of 41 !

Angmering dismissed Mountfield for 155 with excellent figures of 4 – 34 from Kelly Finneran and 3 – 36 from Lynda Royce. Two excellent catches from Laura Bull and very bruised shins from Gill Hilliard gave Angmering a comfortable victory and the trophy for the 5th time.
